Started doing preparatory character sketches for AION this week too. It’s an interesting process, because most of the characters have multiple versions of themselves, one from the present and one from the past. Aaron, the main character, actually has three versions: Aion, in the past, and Abbott, from the future.
I’m worldbuilding as I design; for example, the Past of the story is actually set in a neon, superhero-filled futuristic city, which is designed to evoke the ecstasis of teenage and young adulthood. I want to imagine a queer superhero world, so I’m designing costumes for the male character that are more like how female character costumes are designed; lots of cutaways and panels, and realistic… ahem… anatomical components, for the type of material they wear. The heroes all wear fluorescent makeup too; I want a kind of weird, Club Kid feel in there.
Anyway, here are some of the designs so far:
Aaron is the main character; Aion and Abbott are his past and future selves.
Ben is Aaron’s friend and, in the past, the leader of the team
Scott is Aaron’s partner in the present. In the past, he was a new addition to the team; rash, impulsive and, ultimately, destructive
